How Pépin calculates

Two numbers, no more: the index says how fast, the load says how much.

Try it with your portion

Pick a food, then slide the quantity.

Estimated glycemic index
28
It does not change with the quantity.
Carbohydrates in your portion
23 g
15 g per 100 g.
Glycemic load
6
low

A small load. Nice and gentle.

Load = index × carbohydrates in the portion ÷ 100. Indexes from the app's reference table, carbohydrates from the Ciqual 2025 table; results rounded.

The glycemic index

How quickly a food containing carbohydrates raises blood sugar, compared with pure glucose (100).

  • Low: up to 55
  • Medium: 56 to 69
  • High: 70 and over

The glycemic load

It takes into account how much you actually eat. A high-index food can have a small load if the portion is modest. A load counts as low up to 10 and high from 20. Glyami adds it up over the day, with a guide value of 80 that you can adjust.

Where the numbers come from

Glycemic indexes. Estimated from published tables (Atkinson et al., 2008 and 2021; University of Sydney database) and from the product's composition.
Products and additives. Names, nutrition values, ingredients, Nutri-Score, Nova and additives come from Open Food Facts. Data under the ODbL licence, photos under the CC BY-SA licence.
Carbohydrates in meal ideas. Ciqual 2025 food composition table by Anses, reused under the Licence Ouverte 2.0. Anses has neither reviewed nor endorsed Glyami.

These values are estimates: your actual response may differ. Glyami is not a medical device.
